Under Stairs Pull-Out Storage
Two pull-out units built into the dead space beneath an oak staircase: a tiered shoe rack and a twin-bay coat and boot locker.
The space under this staircase was doing nothing, closed off behind plasterboard. I opened it up and built two units that pull straight out into the hallway, so everything stored inside is reachable without anyone crawling into the void.
The first is a three-tier shoe rack. The second is a twin-bay locker with hooks and a bench shelf at seat height, for coats and boots. Both run on full-extension runners and are sprayed white inside, so the contents stay easy to see.
The fronts are faced in oak to match the existing staircase and spindles, with a triangular panel cut to follow the rake of the stair string. Closed up, the whole thing reads as panelling rather than storage.
